The Challenge

Beginning as a proof of concept for our innovation accelerator, IGNITE, Ruffage quickly became one of the clearest demonstrations of what happens when rigorous design craft is accelerated by AI, from brief to shelf-ready prototype in just a few short weeks.

Using closed-loop AI to uncover insights, Kaleidoscope identified an untapped space in the pet nutrition category: a wellness-oriented, clean-ingredient dog treat brand with the expressive visual language that younger pet owners respond to. The brief was built entirely in-house, with category insights translating directly into brand strategy, naming, and packaging innovation direction.

Our Approach

We explored multiple visual territories, each grounded in a CMF strategy (Color, Material, Finish) that shaped the palette, material cues, and overall tactile feel of the brand world. AI-assisted product imagery was generated and evaluated, with packaging design performance validated through Dragonfly AI to ensure the final direction performed at shelf before anything was built physically.

The design craft balanced playfulness with wellness credibility, two signals that rarely coexist cleanly in the pet category. Packaging prototyping brought the concept into the physical world, stress-testing the brand’s shelf presence beyond the screen.
